My student was interested in getting his Commercial Drivers License (CDL).  His situation was that he had been driving tractor trailers for a company, but without his CDL, and he didn't want to continue to drive illegally, even though his boss knew that he had been.  The difficulty was that he was a very poor reader.  He was matched with a tutor, and we focused primarily on studying the CDL manual.  Approximately nine months into tutoring, my student was post-tested and had made a gain of 1.3 grade levels. Shortly after that, he passed his CDL exam.  Now, he could not only drive legally, but could also easily apply for other, better jobs, confident that he had the proper training, experience and documentation.
