My student and her family received refugee status and were allowed to come to the United States in 2008.


The determination and drive that my student has, to better her life for her sons' future, is the same drive my parents and other relatives had when we came to America.

I've learned that there is a drive and commitment to becoming more productive in our society by people who have so much less (financially) than most people I'm connected to. I have such respect and admiration for my student.


I am amazed at how difficult it is to learn a new language and what a long process it is.
