LNY Encourages FREE Professional Development Opportunities

Mon, Jun 4th 2018 04:00 pm

Many of you know that COABE  was organized to advance national and international adult education and literacy opportunities for all persons. One of its many purposes is to promote adult education and literacy programs, including Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Family Literacy, Skills Development, Workforce Development, and other state, federal, and private programs which assist undereducated and/or disadvantaged adults to function effectively. The Educate & Elevate Advocacy Campaign for Adult Literacy is another of their main initiatives.

COABE also generously offers FREE  professional development webinars which are led by presenters that have received excellent ratings from workshop participants at the national COABE conferences.

Here is June’s Schedule:

Minds That Move Us: Learn About IEL's Adult Career Pathways Design Challenge

Date: Friday, June 8, 2018

Time: 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST

Presented by: Johan Uvin, Alicia Bolton, Celina Shands, Patricia Tyler, and Sharon Bonney

Do you have a great solution to help low-skilled adults in your community get the education, training, and jobs they need? If so, then the first Minds that Move Us challenge is for you! The Institute for Educational Leadership's (IEL) Minds that Move Us initiative challenges public/private partners to examine the current education and training gaps within their communities and then create models that can be scaled and replicated within various industries to ensure social equity and economic mobility for all. The first Minds that Move Us challenge is the Adult Career Pathways Design Challenge. Through this endeavor, IEL is asking communities to design career pathway innovations for adult learners who do not have any formal postsecondary training or education and lack the skills necessary to put themselves on a career path, especially those with disabilities. With generous support from the ECMC Foundation and in partnership with the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) and the National Association of State Directors of Adult Education (NASDAE), IEL will select 10 teams from around the country to design career pathway programs for adults 26 and over. During a three year period, teams will partake in a Design Camp, 24 hours of technical assistance and coaching, and a Career Pathways Festival to pitch their proposed solutions with a chance to win $100K! To learn more, tune in to this webinar and don't miss your chance to develop the innovative solution your community needs.
