My student spoke hardly a word of English, and was terrified to go anywhere because she could not speak the language.  She would not answer the phone, could not speak with her children's teachers.  But, as her English improved, she enrolled in the GED and CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) classes at the same time.  She received her GED Diploma and now works at the local hospital as a nursing assistant.  She is now enrolled in college for a degree in nursing.
