Buffalo, NY, 2/10/2021 – Literacy New York (LNY) recently announced that the Janice Cuddahee Tutor Support Program, a project of the Janice Cuddahee Fund, will underwrite the cost of 70 tutor training workshops for qualified adult literacy providers during 2021. This online Tutor Training Program allows adult literacy programs to continue to meet the needs of adults in their communities while following all COVID-19 precautions. The workshops are delivered through Literacy New York’s highly rated and easy to use Intake to Outcomes (I2O) tutor training system.

“When we first learned about the tutor training workshops offered in the I20 system, we knew they would be an invaluable resource for our volunteers,” said Catholic Charities Community Services in New York City.

Training tutors online in this time of social distancing makes sense and the I2O workshops even include a module to help support the remote delivery of instruction. Trained tutors will be able to help adult learners with online instruction or onsite when programs reopen their doors!

“We are thrilled to continue to honor Janice’s legacy and fulfill her goal of building more literate communities,” says Kathy Houghton, Executive Director of Literacy New York. “The need is enormous. Over 43 million adults in the United States cannot read, write, or do basic math above a third-grade level.”

Helping low-literacy level adults improve their basic skills changes lives and helps strengthen all of our communities.
