As shared earlier, Literacy New York launched the Janice Cuddahee Fund application for tutor training workshops in January. We are excited to report that we have made our first award this month! Brooklyn Public Library in New York City applied for tutor training workshops in math for their established group of volunteer literacy tutors. Upon learning of their award, Erna Golden, Manager, Adult Education and Training, said:

"Brooklyn Public Library is thrilled that the Janice Cuddahee Fund has awarded BPL Adult Learning with 30 (Intake to Outcomes: I2O) online seats for Math Instruction volunteer tutor training! Foundational training in math instruction methods will help the adult literacy students enrolled at the BPL Learning Centers to learn more of the mathematical problem-solving skills they need for daily life, ongoing education, and success in the workplace. We appreciate that these online tutor trainings take into account the Literacy Volunteer's need to feel capable of implementing the training. Incorporating actual models of literacy volunteers using the math instruction strategies with adult students will definitely help the BPL literacy volunteers feel more comfortable with incorporating math strategies into lessons with their students."

Literacy New York is thrilled to work with Brooklyn Public, and we'll update everyone on how the tutors and learners are doing, once they begin using their I2O Math Basics Tutor Training workshops.

We encourage more adult literacy programs to apply for I2O tutor training workshops!
