Training
of Trainers Workshop (T.O.T.)
Description
In this 12-hr. workshop, trainers will learn to use the principles of
participatory adult education to train tutors, analyze and apply theory,
and practice teach a workshop segment. This workshop is for trainers
who already know the content of their tutor training program and want
to learn how to train following these participatory principles. We will
use sequential learning tasks to engage analysis and apply new information.
Participants complete a learning needs resource survey and return it
one week prior to the workshop.
Intended Audience
LNY trainers or experienced tutors with a letter of recommendation from
their affiliate leadership.
Prerequisite
Knowledge and experience with the local affiliate's Basic Literacy or
ESOL tutor training is required. Suggested reading: LVA's ESL Trainer's
Guide and 4th edition of I Speak English or LVA's Basic
Literacy Trainer Guide, the 7th edition of Tutor, and Learning
to Listen, Learning to Teach by Jane Vella.
Schedule
A Training of Trainers is scheduled annually as part of the Summer Training
Institute. LNY Trainer Corps will facilitate additional TOT Workshops
for any region upon request. A minimum of twelve participants is needed
for a TOT Workshop. Any region or multiple regions can host a TOT. We
request sufficient numbers and sufficient time to secure needed trainers
